We’re seeking a Associate General Counsel, Employment and Product, to serve as a strategist and thought partner to our business teams managing the global knowledge-worker platform central to Refonte's operations. This lawyer will also provide counsel on a wide range of domestic and international employment law issues. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in employment law, a background in technology, litigation experience, and a proven track record of offering practical solutions to complex, time-sensitive problems in close collaboration with various cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
You will:
- Develop and oversee the company strategy on all employment law-related matters, including contractor workforce management and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Collaborate closely with technical and non-technical teams, including product, engineering, operations, human resources, communications, marketing, and finance, to ensure that compliance with relevant employment laws, including those related to worker classification, is integrated into Refonte’s products and processes by design.
- Advise the executive and HR teams on a wide range of domestic and international employment law matters, including recruitment and hiring, employee relations, performance management, internal investigations, leaves of absence, compensation and benefits, restrictive covenants, wage-and-hour compliance, employee privacy, and immigration.
- Identify emerging and unique employee relations challenges and proactively offer risk mitigation solutions.
- Draft, review, and revise offer letters, employment and consulting agreements, and other compensation-related plans and documentation across all levels within a global organization.
- Draft or revise employment-related document templates and negotiate employment-related agreements, including offer letters, confidentiality agreements, arbitration agreements, and settlement agreements.
- Develop and deliver training on employment-related issues to educate employees and strengthen Refonte’s culture of compliance.
- Assist in managing employment litigation, including handling demand letters and pre-litigation disputes, overseeing discovery, and coordinating both outside counsel and internal teams.
- Help develop and maintain internal processes, resources, and tools to support the scaling of the legal function.
Qualifications:
- At least 8+ years of employment and litigation experience, both in-house and at a top law firm.
- Experience working closely with both people and contractor management teams.
- Ability to think strategically both at a high level and with attention to detail, in order to drive complex problem-solving and develop creative, business-oriented solutions.
- A hands-on attitude to tackle projects of all sizes with a collaborative, low-ego approach across the organization.
- Deep interest in artificial intelligence, generative AI, and machine learning technology and applications
- Outstanding organizational and communication skills.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a member of the California or New York Bar in good standing.
Other desirable background:
- Experience at a company with a marketplace or a large contingent workforce.
- Experience in product counseling.
- Experience with the employment aspects of corporate due diligence.
Compensation packages at Refonte for eligible roles include a base salary, equity, and benefits. The salary range listed in each job posting represents the minimum and maximum target for new hires, based on work location and other factors such as job-related skills, experience, interview performance, and relevant education or training. Employees in eligible roles may also receive equity compensation, subject to approval by the Board of Directors. Your recruiter can provide details about the specific salary range for your preferred location and confirm whether the role is eligible for an equity grant. In addition to salary and equity, you will receive benefits such as comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, retirement benefits, a learning and development stipend, and generous PTO.
